Jason Holtz and Nicolas Schram

When Jason Holtz and Nicolas
Schram chant the Haftorah on
Oct. 5 at Adat Shalom Syna-
gogue, they will be joining in
more than the service.
To honor the Hillel Day
School students' b'nai mitzvah,
the boys and their families
chose to underwrite special
Pioneer Women /Naamat
spiritual adoptions and share in
their simchot with two under-
privileged children in Israel.
It was no accident that
Pioneer Women /Naamat was
chosen. Jason's maternal
grandmother, Frieda Leemon, of
Farmington Hills, is past na-
tional president. Nicolas' mater-
nal grandmother, Nettie
Gottlieb, of Southfield, has been
an active member for 24 years.
The boys' mothers, both life

members, joined Degania Chap-
ter at the same time.
Jason's "adoptive" child,
Dovid Z., age 4, is receiving
fulltime care at N'vai Taf Home
in Tel Aviv. Dovid's mother has
been ,confined to a psychiatric
hospital since her 24-year-old
husband was killed in Lebanon.
Nicolas' child, Uri N., age 3,
lives at the Rehovot Home. He
was placed there by the Israeli
authorities after :he was found,
at age 2, wandering the streets.
He had been starved and se-
verely beaten.
The b'nai mitzvah hope to
travel to Igrael soon to meet
their adoptive children.
They are the sons of Albert
and Judith Holtz of West Bloom-
field and Calvin and Sandra
Schram of Farmington Hills.
