Mike Burstyn
Mike Burstyn, singer and star
of the Broadway hit Barnum,
will entertain at the Shaarey
Zedek Israel Bond dinner honor-
ing Marvin and Sharon Fleis-
chman on Oct. 10.
The dinner will be preceeded
by a cocktail reception at 6:30
p.m. Synagogue members, rela-
tives and friends are invited.
The Fleischmans will receive
the State of Israel Gates of
Jerusalem Medal.
Burstyn, who has made Israel
his second home since 1962, is
an actor, singer and dancer, who
has performed in films and on
stage and television. He has ap-
peared in concert throughout
Europe, Israel, the United
States, South America, Au-
stralia and Mexico.
Winner of two Israeli "Oscars"
and first prize in the 1967 In-
ternational Song Festival,
Burstyn has performed in
variety shows, recorded 25 LPS
for CBS and entertained in
nightclubs. He was the star of
two of his own television series,
one in Israel and the other in
Holland which has seen
throughout Western Europe.
Burstyn co-hosted the Meru
Griffin Show taped in Israel,
co-starred with Jason Robards,
Jr.in the .film Death in Jericho,
and appeared in a Variety Royal
Command Performance at Lon-
don's Palladium.
He recently completed filming
the third in a series of musical
comedies based on his award-
winning Israeli character Kuni
Leml. Entitled Kuni Leml in
Cairo, it is the first Israeli mo-
tion picture to be filmed in
Egypt.
Born in New York, Burstyn
began his professional career at
the age -of seven as a member of
his parents' touring Yiddish
musical comedy theater. • He
made his Broadway debut in
1968 in the musical The Megil-
lah and in 1970 appeared as Roy
Cohn in the play. Inquest, the
Broadway drama about. the
Rosenberg trial. .
Burstyn' is; an executive board
member of Israel's Variety Club
and a founding member of the
Israeli Union. of Performing
