Friends, family, and col- leagues from around the country will join members of Temple Is- rael at a special Sabbath Eve Service of Recognition for Si- mons at 8 p.m. Oct. 4 at the temple. A Shabbat dinner will be served before the services.. Preceding his temple adminis- trative career, Simons was city editor of The Jewish News from 1950 to 1960. Simons has received national recognition for his accom- plishments_in the field of temple administration. He served as president of the National Asso- ciation of Temple Adminis- trators from 1973 to 1975. He is currently a board member of the Metropolitan Detroit Federation of Reform Synagogues, the Syn- agogue Council of Greater De- troit and the regional board of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations.' The Simons' children are Can- tor Alane and Rabbi Jan Kat- zew of Port Washington, N.Y., Eric and Laurie Simons, of Boulder, Colo., and Janet (Yonina) and Oded Barnea, of Kibbutz Shomrat, Israel. They have two granddaughters, Sarit Katzew and Karen Barnea. Cantor and Rabbi Katzew will participate in the Sabbath serv- ice on Oct. 4. Simons is married to the former Lucy Hirschman. General chairman for the tribute is Bernard Linden, as- sisted by Shirley Fink, co- chairman; Judy Zatkin and Hilda Raskin, invitations; Lois Singer, decorations; Ruth Cas- sel, publicity; Stanley Millman, program planning. Lance Mer- men, Judy Miller and Ruth Traurig are co-chairmen of a committee to establish a Frank L. Simons Administrators' Fund at the temple.
