HADASSAH CHAPTER MEETINGS Afternoon and Evening TUESDAY, OCT. 15 Greater Detroit Chapter of Hadassah is doing something NEW! — the opening meeting will be held both afternoon at 12:30 p.m. and evening at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15 at Temple Beth El. We are privileged to have Dr. Ruth Gruber, internationally noted prize-winning author and Dr. Ruth Grubner to speak at foreign correspondent address opening message. both meetings. Currently, Dr. Gruber is doing research for a book on Ethiopian Jews. Her recent book "Haven" is being made into a movie for televi- sion. Her earlier book, "Raquela" the story of a nurse mid-wife at Hadassah Hospital during Israel's War of Independence,has been reissued. Dr. Gruber received the National Jewish Book Award for "Raquela." Bernice Tannenbaum will be the guest speaker at a dinner to benefit the Hadassah Medical Organization on Thursday, Oc- tober 3, at the new Hadassah House in West Bloomfield. ' Mrs. Tannebaum, a former president of National Hadassah, is co-president of the World Con- federation of United Zionists, a member of the Board of Direc- tors of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, a member of the Board of Governors of the Hebrew University and vice-president of the United Jewish Appeal. Funds raised for the Hadassah Medical Organization are used for the Hadassah Medical Com- plex which includes the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical' Center at Ein Karem and the Hadassah Hospital on Mt. Scopus. The complex has in-patient facilities for over 1,100, over 60 out-patient clinics, and schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Pub- lic Health. . .• ASSOCIATES EVENING A festive evening is planned to honor Hadassah Associates on Tuesday, October 29 at 8:00 p.m. at the Sarah and Ralph Davidson Hadassah House an- nounced Marjorie Saulson, Hadassah Associates Chairman. HADASSAH TO CONVENE SOVIET JEWRY PROGRAM Hadassah and the friends of the Soviet Jewry Education and Information Center have been chosen to serve as the conveners for this fall's Human Rights for Soviet Jews Program. Beverly Fine, chairman of the event, and Rae Sharfman, chapter Soviet Jewry chairman, have been meeting with representatives from co-sponsoring organiza- tions, synagogues and temples. Yosef Mendelevich, former re- fusenik who spent twelve years imprisoned in the Soviet Union, will be the featured speaker. The community-wide program will be held Tuesday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the main Jewish Community Center.
