Reform Leader Refutes Rabbi New York (JTA) — A spokesman for Reform Judaism said earlier this month that a leading Orthodox rabbi was "in error" when he publicly asserted that there had never been a Re- form rabbi of a synagogue in Po- land. The statement by Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, president of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of North America, is incorrect," said Rabbi Philip Hiat, assistant to Rabbi Alexander Schindler, president of the Union of American Hebrew Congrega- tions. Noting that the bar mitzvah of a Stamford, Conn. youth was recently held in the Temple Synagogue in Cracow, Hiat said: "This synagogue was dedi- cated as a Reform synagogue in 1844. Its most prominent spiritual leader was Osias Thon, a Reform rabbi who was also a member of the Polish Sejn (Se- nate) and a key figure in the Zionist movement in Galicia, who died in 1936." Thatcher announced the invi- tation Friday, in Amman,- at the end of her visit to Jordan. Is- raeli Premier Shimon Peres told a Cabinet meeting in Jerusalem Sunday that he intends to send a letter to Thatcher protesting her intention to meet with the PLO men and the arms sales deal she set up with Jordan and Saudi Arabia. The joint delegation to meet with Thatcher and Foreign Sec- retary Sir Geoffrey Howe here will include Jordan's Deputy Premier Abdel Wahab Al- Majali, Foreign Minister Taher Al-Masri and two Palestinians — Mohammed Milhem, former Mayor of Halhoul, whom the Is- raelis expelled from the West Bank in 1980, and Bishop Elia _ Khoury, Suffragan (Anglican) Archbishop of Jerusalem.
