Feinberg, president of the United Hebrew Schools, announces the donation of a gift of $50,000 from Morris and Sarah Friedman to be used to refurbish Rooms 9 and 10 of the main United Hebrew Schools building. These rooms will be re-named the Morris and Sarah Friedman Conference Room. A permanent endowment also will be estab- lished by the Friedmans at the Jewish Welfare Federation to support an annual lecture either in Yiddish or a lecture in English on Yiddish language culture and literature. The endowment will support a Cen- ter for Yiddish Studies in the metropolitan Detroit area. Renah Bardenstein has been appointed the chairman of the convocation. The Friedmans also will be hon- ored at the convocation on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary. They have served on the board of directors for many years. The Friedmans have also been active in the support of Yiddish both in the United States and in Israel. They have endowed a Center for Yiddish Language in Israel at Gilda Z. Jacobs Gilda Z. Jacobs, the first woman to serve on the Hun- tington Woods City Commission, is seeking another four-year term. Jacobs was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Commis- sion in February of 1981. She then ran successfully for a four-year term which expires in Detember. Jacobs taught in the Madison School District before serving as an administrative aide to State Sen. Doug Ross. She, is currently development coordinator `for the Jewish Association for Retarded Citizens. A ten-year resident of Hun- tington Woods, Jacobs is a member of the Resident's Asso- ciation, the Art League, and the Friends of the Library. She cur- rently serves as an alternate to SEMCOG, and ,as a liaison be- tween the City and the Safety and Personal Awareness Com- mittee at Burton School. She was also active in completing the Burton Land Use Project. Jacobs is affiliated with the Anti-Defamation League, the Jewish Association for Retarded Citizens, Women's American ORT, National Council of Jewish Women and Temple Emanu-El.
