Arab Group
Jerusalem (JTA) — Knesset
Speaker Shlomo Hillel received
a delegation of Arab merchants
from Tulkarem at his office in
Jerusalem Monday in what was
seen as a direct rebuke to the
mayor of Netanya who snubbed
the same delegation a week ago.
He told his guests a dialogue
with them was desirable and
mandatory in the interests of
peaceful coexistence between
Jews and Arabs.
The delegation had gone' to
Netanya last Wednesday to offer
condolences for the murder of a
Netanya resident, Andre
Aloush, who was killed three
weeks ago while shopping in
Tulkarem. The secretary of the
Tulkarem Chamber of Com-
merce told Hillel that the West
Bank city's leaders want to
erase the bitter feelings
engendered by the murder of
Aloush. He said he was con-
vinced the killer was not a resi-
dent of Tulkarem.
New Year Cards
For Soviet Jews
The Jewish Community Coun-
cil's Detroit Soviet Jewry Com-
mittee (DSJC) has prepared a
series of New Year cards which
Detroiters may send to re-
fuseniks in the Soviet Union.
The cards, which contain a
calendar of Jewish holidays, a
Russian-Hebrew alphabet, a
drawing of Jerusalem and Rosh
Hashanah greetings, are de-
signed to bolster the spirit of the
refuseniks and to alert Soviet
authorities that Americans are
concerned about the plight of
Soviet Jewry.
To order the cards and secure
mailing addresses for re-
fuseniks, contact the DSJC,
962-1880.
