The college is the official adult education project for the Reform congregations of Met- ropolitan Detroit. The courses are open to any adult. Temple membership is not required. According to Cantor Norman Rose, dean of the college, this marks the 19th year of the Col- lege of Jewish Studies, and it is the fifth year that the college is working closely with the Mid- rasha College of Jewish Studies. Classes are taught by rabbis, cantors, educators, other profes- sionals in the field of Jewish education and clergy of other faiths. Courses include: Beginner, In- termediate and Advanced Yid- dish; Comparative Judaism; the Talmud; Moses Mendelssohn — The 200th Anniversary of His Death; Jewish Values and the Arts; A survey from Antiquity to Today; Ancient History of the Jewish People; Holocaust — What Lessons Have We Learned; Israeli Dancing; Judaism and Christianity; A Camera View of the Book of Genesis; Jewish Experience in America; Torah and Haftorah , Cantillation; Medieval Jewish History; Judaism and Crisis; Re- form Jewish Life Cycle; The Jewish Family: Continuity or Change: Jewish Responses to Modern Jewish Problems. Courses entitled Introduction to Judaism I are open to anyone, but are specifically designed to meet the needs of prospective converts to Judaism. Introduc- tion to Judaism II is being in- troduced to students who have recently participated in an In- troduction to Judaism, concen- trating on some aspects of Judaism and contemporary Jewish life which was not covered before. Courses for religious school teachers' certificates are being developed for the near future. Presently a course in classroom management is being offered, as well as courses in Bible, history.
