Gil remained steadfast and
optimistic throughout the
ordeal. He repeatedly told
Eisenberg, "I will do what-
ever I can with whatever I
have." Using the flowers as
they came in, he tried to be
as productive as possible.
By mid-afternoon, when
the missing crates were
found, most of the flowers
had already been replaced.
The unfortunate incident
had its positive side. Eisen-
berg says it brought many of
the designers closer together.
"People from all over the
world were helping us, were
supporting us. They , offered

us flowers and greens."
By Wednesday, all was
forgotten in the heat and
creativity of the competition.

over the world," Eisenberg
recalls. "Over 3,000 came to
watch the contest events.

everywhere. It was a joy to
behold such beauty."
While Gil did not win the
Interflora World Cup, he
came away with interna-
tional attention and respect.
Eisenberg explains, "We
drew a lot of attention.
Every designer came to see
us. The "That's My Country"
event, in which Yossi created
a floral design with an Is-
raeli spirit, was very unique.
Everyone commented on it. I
could not even translate all
the comments and questions
fast enough."
For Yossi Gil, Israeli floral
designer, it was an auspici-
ous moment, a first interna-
tional competition full of
surprise, beauty, joy and
acclaim. ❑
