Dr. Laikin-Elkin
The Midrasha-College of
Jewish Studies, Jewish Commu-
nity Council and American
Jewish Committee will co-
sponsor a special lunch and lec-
ture series, "Jews: Time and
Space" will be held on Monday
and Oct. 21 and Dec. 9 at noon
at the Midrasha.
The opening lecture on "Jews
and Space: Struggling Com-
munities in Latin America" will
be given by Dr. Judith Laikin-
Elkin. Dr. Laikin-Elkin is the
author of Jews of the Latin
American Republics.
Dr. Laikin-Elkin received a
B.A. degree at the University of

Michigan and a master's degree
in international relations at
Columbia University. After re-
ceiving her master's degree she
was commissioned a United
States Foreign Service Officer in
Southeast Asia.
Her experiences are recol-
lected in her book Krishna
Smiled. After a tour of duty in
England, Dr. Laikin-Elkin
served as regional director for
American Jewish Congress and
wrote a column of foreign news
analysis for the Detroit Free
Press. She has taught at Wayne
State University, Albion Col-
lege, University of Michigan
and is currently-teaching at
Ohio State University in Col-
umbus, Ohio.
Dr. Laikin-Elkin received a
Ph.D. degree from the Univer-
sity of Michigan and focused on
the history of the Jews of Latin
America. She has traveled ex-
tensively in Latin America and
received a Fullbright Schol-
arship for research in Argentina
in 1984.
The series is open to the pub-
lic. The cost of the series in-
cludes lunch.
