Sinai Cardiac Study
Seeks Participants
Sinai Hospital of Detroit is
looking for participants for a
study being performed by the
Cardiac Fitness and Rehabilita-
tion Program.
The study will evaluate the
interaction of a commonly
prescribed type of cardiac medi-
cation, "beta-blockers," and
exercise training on the two
forms of blood cholesterol.
Participants in the study must
be males who have had coronary
bypass surgery or coronary an-
gioplasty, and do not have any
major diseases of other organ
systems. Prospective patients
should not be currently exercis-
ing regularly.
For the study, patients, on a
random basis, will be instructed
to take either a beta-blocker or
an inactive substance.
AIL patients will undergo a
six-month period of supervised
exercise training through the
Sinai Hospital Cardiovascular
Fitnessand Rehabilitation Pro-
gram.
The patient's exercise capacity
will be evaluated before and
after training by an exercise
stress test, and blood samples
will be taken.
All patients will receive diet-
ary counseling in accordance
with the American Heart Asso-
ciation's most recent guidelines.
The program will be provided
free of charge to participants in
the study.
