Dettojters gear
up for next
week's national
Israel Bonds,
leadership
conference at
the Hyatt.

Stuf'fing hospitality and survival
kits, ordering food, arranging for
religious services and other dele-
gates' needs are among the prepara-
tions being made for the 1985 Na-
tional Leadership Conference of
State of Israel Bonds.
Hosted by the Detroit lay lead-
ership of the Bonds organization, the
conference will be held Thursday
through Sept. 8 at the Hyatt Re-
Orley Hotel in Dearborn. About 150
volunteers ranging in age from their
20s to their 80s will be on hand to
help things flow smoothly for the
more than 300 delegates from the
United States and Canada who will
attend.
The delegates will receive a spe-
cial gift from their Detroit hosts, a
poster reproduction of a watercolor,
"Street Scene in Safed," by Detroit
artist Sybil Mintz.
Special security precautions
have been taken to prevent any dis-
ruption of the conference by"unde-
sirables," a Bond official said. The

Dearborn police will patrol the hotel
and the Hyatt will provide its own
security. The sheriff's department
also will be available and the South-
field and West Bloomfield police de-
partments will be on hand as the
delegates visit their respective cities.
All of the delegates, volunteers
and staff will bear special identifica-
tion tags.
Committees have been organized
under the general chairmanship of
Douglas Schubot and Barbara
Stollman to make arrangements for
the many activities scheduled for the
four-day gathering.
Doreen Hermelin, a member of
the hospitality committee who will
host a special barbecue dinner with
her husband, National Campaign
Chairman David Hermelin, said her
committee has many projects to or-
ganize. The hospitality committee
will provide hosts and hostesses for
the hospitality room, docents for the
tours of the Holocaust Memorial
Center, staffers at the information
desks, workers at the hospitality
suite and hostesses for the Shabbat
dinner. She said the task of finding
volunteers is easy. "People are very
receptive to helping out."
She is joined on the hospitality
committee by Betty Kahn and Sydell
Schubot.
Lawrence Wolfe is working with
Donald Wagner on the New Leader-
ship Division's cocktail reception.
Wolfe said there are plans for a New
Leadership table at each dinner and
said he hopes that the Detroit body

of young leaders will have an oppor-
tunity to exchange ideas with their
counterparts from around the coun-
try.
Planning sightseeing trips for
the out-of-towners proved to be "very
simple," according to Ilene Chait,
who co-chairs the sightseeing com-
mittee with Dottie Wagner. Tasks
undertaken by the committee are ar-
rangements for transportation from
the hotel to Greenfield Village, to
the Holocaust Memorial Center, to
synagogues for Selichot services and
providing tour packets.
Ruth and Max Sosin are making
sure the religious needs of the dele-
gates will be met. The couple has ar-
ranged for women to light candles on
Shabbat by buying candleholders
from the Lubavitchers and candles.
Yarmulkes and tefilin have been
purchased and Cong. Shaarey Zedek
has provided prayerbooks. Cong.
B'nai David donated a Sefer Torah,
and a portable ark from Cong. Beth
Shalom has been lent for the confer-
ence.
Delegates who wish to attend
Selichot services on Sept. 7 will have
transportation available for Conser-
vative services at Shaarey Zedek
and Orthodox services at Young Is-
rael of Southfield. Minyanim at the
hotel will be conducted by Cantor
Chaim Najman of Shaarey Zedek
and Cantor Israel Fuchs, cantor
emeritus at Cong. Beth Abraham
Hillel Moses. A "Sabbath elevator"
also will be available.
