ton, Pa. Receiving his B.A. degree
from the University of Deleware
and his J.D. degree from Syracuse
University School of Law, he was
first elected to the U.S. Senate in
1972.
He is a ranking member of the
Foreign Relations Committee,
where he has been a strong sup-
porter of pro-Israel legislation. He
also serves on the Senate
Judiciary Committee, as well as
on various other Senate and
Democratic Party groups and
committees.
In addition to Sen. Biden, Bar-
Ilan's dinner guests will hear
Yossi Harel, Bar-Ilan alumnus
and reserve officer in Israel's
Paratroop Corps, who will discuss

New York — A new elec-
trocardiograph, 100 to 500 times
more sensiive than the conven-
tional EKG, has been invented
by a Tel Aviv University physi-
cian and a computer engineer,
giving physicians a powerful
weapon to detect potential heart
attacks in seemingly healthy
patients.
The new device, designed to
diagnose heart defects that
would go undetected by ordinary
EKG's, was developed by Prof.
Yoram Lass, vice dean of Tel
Aviv U.'s Sackler Faculty of
Medicine, and Gideon David, a
computer engineer from the
Ligad Co. in Ramat Gan.
Cantors Placed
New York — More than 100
cantors and baalei tefila (prayer
leaders) have been placed with
synagogues for the High Holy
Days in cities ranging from
Malden, Mass. to Wichita, Kan.,
to Raleigh, N.C., with the aid of
the department of cantorial
services of the Max Stern Di-
vision of Communal Services
(MSDCS).
MSDCS is the communal out-
reach arm of the Yeshiva
University-affiliated Rabbi Isaac
Elchanan Theological Seminary
(RIETS) in New York City.

Jewish Committee has ex-
pressed strong disapproval of
the negative portrayals of
C hinese Americans in the new
Year of the Drggon, and
called on filmmakers to "cease
t heir unfair and harmful por-
rayals of Chinese and other
thnic experiences."
