Terror Cell
Wiped Out

Jerusalem (JTA) — Security
forces destroyed two houses be-
longing to terrorsts in the village
of Anabta near Tul Karem last
week. A third house was sealed.
The houses belonged to the
heads of a terrorist band that op-
erated in the area. The terrorists
murdered an Arab from the area,
and opened fire on a jeep and a bus
two years ago, wounding two
people.

Bombs Defused

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Two explo-
sive charges were found and dis-
mantled by the police bomb squad
near Ashkelon Friday morning
before they caused any damage.
One charge was discovered in the
Pazchim chemical factory in the
town, and the other was found
near the Erez checkpoint at the
approaches to the Gaza Strip.

Four Cited

New York (JTA) — Four
scholarship awards, making it
possible for winners to spend
periods of up to one year in Is-
rael, have been named by the
American Zionist Youth Found-
ation, according to Eli
Zborowski, AZYF chairman.
The awardees- are Gail
Labowitz of Wyncote, Pa.; Ste-
ven Frank of New York; Scott
Copeland of Hull, Mass.; and
Joan Chase of Rutland, Vt.

Winning Essays

Waltham, Mass. (JTA) —
Stephanie Siegmund of New
York and Adam Wolfson of
Washington have been selected
co-winners of the 1985 Leo Was-
serman Student Essay Prize
award of the American Jewish
Historical Society for the best
student research in American
Jewish history.

Sharif Off
Blacklist

London (JTA) — Egyptian-
born film actor Omar Sharif and
two major American companies
have been removed from the
Arab blacklist of individuals
and firms created as part of the
Arab boycott directed against
Israel, the World Jewish Con-
gress reported.

SSSJ Petition

New York — The Student
Struggle for Soviet Jewry (SSSJ)
has issued a petition asking
President Ronald Reagan to dis-
cuss the rights denied Jews in
the Soviet Union with Soviet
President Mikhai Gorbachev
during the summit between the
two leaders schedule for No-
vember.
