For a casual look, oversized sport- coats (worn like cardigans by pushing up the sleeves) is stylish. David Ro- govin, manager of L'Uomo Vogue in Southfield, believes that Detroiters have been influenced by the popular televi- sion show, "Miami Vice ' resulting in this casual, sportscoat look. Knitted sportcoats in blended pat- terns of taupe, navy and grey are perfect for casual dressing. The same colors are found in shirts and slacks with different patterns. Pleated pants are still popular in the Detroit market. These slacks go with the classic suits or the casual sportcoat. Grumet is even showing triple-pleated slacks. "It's not going to be for every man, but we've already sold five pairs in summer," says Grumet. The rich colors and plaids extend to the sport shirts. "There's excitement in sport shirts this fall. There's a new kind of plaid with colors very deep and very rich. The colors are sophisticated," says Wachler. Exciting combinations of taupe, grey, blue, and brown are highlighted. Sweaters are an important staple in the Detroit wardrobe. Longer cardi- gans with three buttons are favorites. Wool crewneck sweaters as well as cashmeres are also stylish. "Crewnecks constitute about 85 per- cent of all sweater sales," says Harry Kosins, co-owner of Kosins Clothes and Kosins Big and Tall. This season's crewnecks have bold and beautiful pat- terns. Some have geometric shapes trimmed in leather. For outerwear, topcoats are im- portant.
