College date your wardrobe inexpensively, since they can be worn under many dif- ferent tops and are less costly than buy- ing other types of padded shoulder tops. Tapered pants come in two versions: stirrup pants and slim cropped pants, both of which are in style. They are found in several different fabrics, such as fleece (thinner than the usual sweat- suit material but still labeled "fleece"), cotton and denim. Of course, you can't go wrong with what is considered the basic clothing item on college campuses across the country. That is — have you guessed yet? — jeans. Designer jeans are not as popular as they once were. What is popular are Levi 501 blue jeans; washed and faded jeans; and Union Bay, Guess and Esprit jeans. But your wardrobe should not con- sist entirely of jeans, stirrup pants and big tops. Undoubtedly, you will find yourself wearing casual clothes most of the time, but there will be occasions (hopefully) for dressing up — to go dancing and to parties. For parties, you could wear one of the new and stylish skirts, either a miniskirt (the hemline about knee- length) or a slim, long skirt with trumpet- style pleats at the hemline. Another good dress-up choice is the classic lambswool dress with a crewneck; it can be worn with a vest, for a casual look, or with a belt, for a dressier look. On the other end of the spectrum, workout clothes are popular, especially for those aspiring not to gain the in- famous "Freshman Five" — pounds, of course. Body suits, oversized sweat- shirts and cotton sock-legwarmers are good items to have. Besides their prac- tical use for workouts, the body suits and oversized sweatshirts can be dressed up or down, with jeans, stirrup pants and socks with crazy designs. Now that you know the latest in clothes, how about the latest colors? Brights are the norm this fall: turquoise, teal, purple, pepper green, red, black and white combinations, and mustard yellow and black combinations. Paisley and plaid prints are shown in these vibrant colors, perfect for mixing, matching and layering. Layering and accessorizing can pull colors together and help to dress up or down any outfit. Layer socks and anklets over stirrup pants, put on a pair of Rebok tennis shoes or high tops, and you're ready for class. Wear tex- tured hose with heels or flats and slender cropped pants, and you're ready to go dancing. Add some costume jewelry, chunky and colorful. Dangling earings are in. So are opera-length pearls, which come in different colors and are worn a few strands at a time. Kilt pins, which have dangling charms, and rhinestone jewelry are also popular. Another important accessory is your handbag. A good bet is a medium- sized leather shoulder bag; favorite colors this fall are pink, plum, royal blue and taupe. The handbag colors correspond to this season's popular coat colors, such as purple, royal blue and grey. A good all-around coat is a three-quarter length tweed, in a medium weight, which can be worn from fall through winter. Hip- length jackets in leather-canvas com- binations are also popular. There are a few other items to toss in your trunk before you close it. Some summer clothes, like Jams and t-shirts, may be needed for an Indian summer (and no air conditioning in your dorm room). A bathrobe is a good invest- ment, especially for those living in coed dorms. And, in case you haven't heard, the lastest rage is bedroom slippers with animal characters. cost 400t i00\01 0,0 v,s0oNs W . 0 B O Ns , OAP' co 114 vp.sLcf" , We offer a complete Wardrobe of Designer Clothing from Canada and Europe as well as Michelle Lauren Original Designs in Lingerie and Lounge Wear.
