lthough autumn traditionally
brings cooler weather in
Michigan, fall fashions are
hot
Hot colors like shocking pink,
mustard yellow and cobalt blue are
fashionable, along with the new, deep
jewel tones of emerald, turquoise,
garnet and amethyst.
But the twist for fall '85 is pattern.
Lots of pattern, with plaids, paisley,
floral prints and tapestry adorning the
clothes.
"There are many different looks and
they are diversified," says Ray Epstein,
of Ray and Ida's in Oak Park and West
Bloomfield. To be a well-dressed
Detroiter this fall, Epstein suggests pur-
chasing a three-quarter length, bright-
ly colored coat. Underneath, she sug-
gests a three-piece suit in unmatched
patterns. Another excellent addition to
this season's wardrobe, according to
Epstein, is sweater dressing: a knit
dress, or knit sweater and skirt set
Knit dressing is a favorite look of Ep-
stien's. "It's comfortable. It packs
easily, travels welt, doesn't wrinkle, and
it's new," she explains
"To be fashionable and well dressed
in sportswear, wear a slim pant with a
big, oversized top with shoulder pads,"
says Ethel Siegal, of Complaisant, a
sportswear shop in West Bloomfield
The "in" pant is tight, narrow and
clingy with stirrups. When teamed with
a large top, it's acceptable for the thin
and not-so-thin. And the not-so-perfect
