Jewish Hospitals Inc, (CJH), a
corporate alliance of major
teaching and research hospitals
of which Sinai Hospital its a
member, and the country's lead-
ing manufacturers of lens im-
plants will result in revolution-
ary pricing discounts of up to 80
percent of lens purchases,
Sinai is the only CJH-
affiliated hospital in the
metro-Detroit area.
The consortium, in conjunc-
tion with the American Associa-
tion of Eye and Ear Hospitals
(AAEEH), reached the agree-
ment with manufacturers by
promising to purchase over
31,000 intraocular lenses (IOLs)
over the next year,
Sinai performed about 1,000
IOL implants last year, accord-
ing to Dr, Hugh Beckman,
chairman of Sinai's department
of ophthalmology,
Dr. Maxwell Bardenstein has
become chief of the section of or-
thopedics, and Dr, Donald
Kapetansky has become chief of
the section of plastic surgery,
both in the department of
surgery at Sinai Hospital of De-
troit.
Dr. Bardenstein has been an
attending physician at Sinai
Hospital since 1958, and is a
clinical associate professor of or-
thopedic surgery at Wayne State
University School of Medicine.
A diplomate of the American
Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, a
fellow of the American Academy
of Orthopedic Surgeons, and a
fellow of the American College
of Surgeons, Dr. Bardenstein
earned his medical degree from
the University of Toronto in
1952.
