Plane Victim
Had Detroit Ties
A 13-year-old victim of list
Friday's air disaster near Dallas
had close ties to Detroit.
Jamison (Jeff) Sulkin of Mesa,
Colo., was returning from Ft.
Lauderdale, where he was was
visiting his grandparents. The
grandparents are former De-
troiters Mr. and Mrs. Louis Sul-
kin. It was Jeff's first trip alone,
a trip he had paid for through
babysitting earnings.
Jeffs father is a cousin of De-
troiters Dr. and Mrs. Israel
(Ann) Wiener. An uncle, How-
ard Sulkin, is president of Sper-
tus College of Judaica in
Chicago. Jeff's father, Arthur, is
a U.S. Air Force colonel.
The crash of Delta Flight 191
killed 133 persons.

Gertrude Stein
Gertrude Stein, a ten-year
volunteer at Beaumont Hospital,
died Aug. 3 at age 76.
A native Detroiter, Mrs. Stein
had also volunteered at Sinai
Hospital. She was graduated
from Northern High School in
Detroit. She earned letters in
varsity track, swimming, bas-
ketball and field hockey.
She leaves a son, Robert; a
daughter, Mrs. Barry (Suzy)
Lakind; two brothers, Morton
Pearl and Donald Pearl of
Northbrook, Ill.; and three
grandchildren.

Seymour B. Goldman, owner
of Marti K Shops, died Aug. 4 at
age 74.
Born in Detroit, Mr. Goldman
retired in 1981. He was a
member of Cong. Shaarey

Club.
He leaves his wife, Mildred;
two sons, Martin R. and Sheldon
A.; a sister, Mrs. Mark (Sylvia)
Shafer of Pompano, Fla.; and
five grandchildren.

Kusevitsky, a European-born
cantor who achieved fame in the
United States, died July 31 at
age 74.
Cantor Kusevitsky and his
three brothers — Moshe, Jacob
and Simcha — all became well-
known cantors in the United
States and South Africa.
He taught at the Cantors In-
stitute of the Jewish Theological
Seminary, was the cantor of
New York's Temple Emanu-El
and had several recordings to
his credit.
