WILLIE "BUFF' EHRLICH,
back home for a visit, has been in
Las Vegas, Nev. 20 years already
. . . since closing the Newspaper
Club here . . . He is host at show-
room of Holiday Casino, which
"Buff' helped open about 12 years
ago . . . Willie still can't get over
gent looking at him and asking if
his name was Ben . . . "Buff' said
no, but the fellow insisted he
knew him . . . Turned out they
were together with the 199th
Engineers during World War II 42
years ago . . . Fellow still insists
Willie's name is.Ben.
CONGRATS . . . to Barbara
and Dr. Conrad Pearl . . . on their
26th anniversary . . . celebrated
with a surprise dinner by stretch
limo (also surprise) at Truffles...
and on to Treats for dessert .. .
Was given by their three daugh-

JULES FAYNE of Hamilton,
Miller, Hudson & Fayne Travel,
tells of boarding a plane for New
York with wife Rose . . . The load-
ing platform was rolled away and
entrance door closed . . . Everyone
waited for the engines to start, but
nothing happened . . . There was a
commotion as stewardess walked
briskly down aisle from the
cockpit, opened the rear door and
shouted, "We have no captain!"
. . . Several minutes later, a
perspiring pilot made his appear-
ance, and the passengers gave
him a round of applause . . . As
soon as the plane• was airborne,
says Jules, a voice came over the
loudspeaker, "Ladies and gentle-
men, this is your captain speak-
ing. Thanks for waiting."
WHILE AT A CONVEN-
TION in Chicago, boutique owner
Andy Greenspoon had to make an
urgent telephone call . . . Since all
the booths in hotel lobby were
occupied, he parked by one to wait
it out . . . The booth he chose had
an elderly gent munching a
sandwich and sipping a Coke dur-
ing pauses in his conversation...
Andy's impatience was apparent
to him because he looked apolo-
getically and, in a few seconds,
come out of the booth . . . "I'm very
sorry, he said. "But I was having
dinner with my wife. I haven't
missed it in 51 years and don't
intend to let a few miles of separa-
tion spoil my record."
MAID OF Ann and Eliot Fogel
gave notice that she was leaving
... Ann asked her whether it was
to better herself . . . and the maid
replied, "Oh, no, ma'am: I just
want to get married."

COLUMN'S ANNUAL
Beauty-Personality Contest will
soon be revived . . . Also best-
dressed men and women'contests.

The Birmingham Community
Band will give a free performance
in ShaM Park at 7:30 p.m. Thurs-
day.
