Dr. Gerald H. Katzman has
been appointed chairman of the
department of pediatrics at Sinai
Hospital.
Before coming to Sinai, Dr.
Katzman was the director of new-
born services at Toledo Hospital,
where he was instrumental in es-
tablishing a neonatal transport
system through which approx-
imately 3,000 infants have been
treated over the past 10 years. He
also taught at the Medical College
of Ohio at Toledo, where he was
clinical associate professor in the
pediatrics department.
Dr. Katzman has been a resi-
dent in pediatrics at Children's
Hospital of Michigan in Detroit,
and a neonatal fellow at St. Chris-
topher's Hospital for Children in
Philadelphia. He received his
Doctor of Medicine degree from
Wayne State University's School
of Medicine in 1968. While there,
he spent four summers working in
the department of research at
Sinai.
In addition to his duties as
chairman of pediatrics, Dr.
Katzman says' he plans to con-
tinue research studies begun in
Toledo on the effects of hypoxemia
in premature infants.
