BESSIE GOLD, 82. of South-
field, died July 12. Survived by
two sons, Erwin of Boca Raton,
Fla. and Philip; a daughter, Mrs.
Lloyd (Pearl) Blazofsky; three sis-
ters, Mrs. Jean Somberg of Los
Angeles, Mrs. Yetta Dubrinsky
and Mrs. Ruth Weinberger; seven
grandchildren; and two great-
grandchildren.

HELEN I. GOLDENBERG, 92,
died July 15. She leaves two
daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Carol)
Coskey and Mrs. Sol (Lois)
Landau; two brothers and one sis-
ter; eight grandchildren and three

July 16. She leaves three sons,

Are Found Murdered

Detroit area merchant and in-
vestor Arthur Fleischman, 90,
and his 66-year-old accountant
Meyer Gold, were found murdered
July 11 in Fleischman's East Side
floor covering store.
Police are still investigating
the incident.
Mr. Fleischman , was one of De-
troit's major floor covering
dealers and built and later lost the
Jeffersonian Apartments.
Active in Jewish affairs, Mr.
Fleischman was a long-time
member and board member of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek, which hon-
ored him on his 90th birthday. He
was also a member of the board

Mrs. Clarice Axelrod, 65, active
in numerous Jewish groups, died
July 11.
Mrs. Axelrod was a past
president of the Maimonides Med-
ical Auxiliary. She was co-
chairman of the Educational Loan
Committee of National Council of
Jewish Women and was an NCJW
Meals on Wheels volunteer. She
was also active in the Juvenile
Diabetes Foundation, Sinai Hos-
pital Guild and other communal
organizations.
She leaves her husband, Dr.
Arnold Axelrod; three sons, Jef-
frey, Andrew and Roy; and two
sisters, Mrs. Helen Kramer of
White Plains, N.Y. and Mrs.
David (Marion) Centre.

Prof. Dov Weintraub

Jerusalem — Prof. Dov Wein-
traub, Sarah Allen Shaine Profes-
sor of Sociology at the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem, died
June 23 at the age of 59.

Gertrude Rosenzweig, 80,
active in Jewish women's groups,
died July 12.
Mrs. Rosenzweig was a native
of Russia and was a member of the
Temple Israel Sisterhood and
Hadassah. She was a volunteer
with the National Council of
Jewish Women's Meals on Wheels
Program and at one time helped
survivors of the Holocaust locate
relatives.
She leaves her husband, Louis;
two sons, Marcus Rowden of
Bethesda, Md., and Dr. Robert
Rosenzweig of Washington, D.C.;
a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Rheba)
Adolph of Toronto, Canada; two
sisters, Mrs. Sol (Dorothy) Disner,
and Mrs. Meyer (Emma) Bruder
of Beachwood, Ohio; seven grand-
children and one great-grand-
daughter.

Economist Dies

Boston — Simon Kuznets,
Nobel Prize-winning economist,
died July 8 at age 84.
Dr. Kuznets taught at the Uni-
versity of Pennsylvania, at Johns
Hopkins University and Harvard
University. He retired in 1971.

Journalist Dies

Improving
Awareness

Rye, N.Y. (JTA) — A pilot proj-
ect designed to reinforce Jewish
identity in dispersed Jewish
communities of Scandinavia and
France was announced recently
by the Meinorial Foundation for
Jewish Culture.
According to Philip Klutznick,
foundation president, the pro-
gram will be targeted for persons
25-45 years of age since they are
the "least involved in Jewish
communal life in Scandinavia and
France, yet they possess consider-
able potential for the future of
Jewish life there."

Gerald Gorel of California; eight

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Moshe Ron,
veteran secretary of the Israeli
Daily Newspaper Editors Com-
mittee and of the World Federa-
tion of Jewish Journalists and
former secretary general of the Is-
rael Journalists Association, died
July 10 at age 81.
Mr. Ron .was a former con-
tributor to The Jewish News.
Born Moshe Danzigerkron in
Warsaw, to a Gur Chasidic fam-
ily, he worked in Poland for the
Yiddish Zionist daily paper,
Haint, and represented that paper
when he came to Palestine in
1935.

`Lost' Papers
Returned

New York — Documents looted
by the Nazis from Holland and re-
scued by a Rabbinic Alumnus of
Hebrew Union Colalege will be
retured tic) the Jewish community
of Amsterdam.
The papers, found a few years
after the' end of World War II by
Rabbi Nathan Peter Levinson,
were originally given to Hebrew
College and have remained there
for 35 years.
