Yiddish journalist and Israel
correspondent Moshe Ron.

Moshe Ron wrote his name in-
delibly in the history of Jewish
journalism of the past half-
century. He authored reports on
the most important Jewish de-
velopments in Israel and in many
Jewish communities throughout
the world, and at the same time
was the organizer of movements
that created solidarity in the
ranks of his confreres aimed at
raising the standards of Jewish
journalism.
During the more than 20 years
of his services as one of the Israeli
correspondents of The Detroit
Jewish News, he recorded faith-
fully the most important social,
political and religious develop-
ments in Israel, and at the same
time he provided commentaries
that helped clarify many current
political issues for Jews and
Arabs.
He will long be remembered for
two important roles: he was a
most efficient organizational
mobilizer and a lover of Yiddish.
In the first capacity, he unified
journalistic ranks and was among
the chief creators of the Israeli
journalistic federation, and in
that process contributed im-
mensely toward the formation of
the World Federation of Jewish
Journalists. He organized and di-
rected a score of important global
meetings of Jewish journalists
and created brotherhoods of
cooperative movements among
them. It was also one of the

means, by way of the newspapers
in several languages, of creating
cooperative tasks among Jewish
communities everywhere.
His love for Yiddish served that
effort most impressively,. He
wrote in Yiddish and translated
his writings and reports Into
English, Spanish, Portuguese and
French, while his home awls-
tions slwaye were In Hebrew, His
tasks soon were re-
duce/ when several Yiddish
essimpers that used his services
l correspondent collapsed.
