breeds hostility, resentment and
violence.
The vast destructive power of
atomic weaponry acquired by the
major nations of the world, has led
them more than once to the brink
of global catastrophe.
Knowledge has not been an
unmixed blessing either. Too
many knowledgeable people have
assumed the attitude of the cynic,
the person who knows the price of
everything and the value of noth-
ing. The values that have tradi-
tionally sustained human life —
integrity, faith, and discipline —
have eroded in an age marked by
an explosion of knowledge accom-
panied by moral confusion.
Our task is to meet the chal-
lenge faced by our ancestors. As
we seek to enter our Promised
Land, we should utilize the great
gifts the Divine Providence has
placed in our hands for moral pur-
pose, for the enhancement of life,
for the will of Heaven. If not, we
shall discover, like the tribes of
ancient Israel, that our bounty
and privilege will not endure.

Bomb Kills
Lebanese

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Two soldiers
of the Israel-backed South Leba-
non Army (SLA) and nine
Lebanese civilians were killed
Monday in a new suicide car-
bomb attack at the perimeter of
the south Lebanon security zone
near Marjayoung.
The inspection point where the
attack occurred has been closed
for the past week because of two
earlier car bombings which
caused fatalities to SLA soldiers
and Lebanese civilians. Two Is-
raeli soldiers were wounded in the
earlier attacks.
Last week Israel Defense Force
aircraft carried out a bombing
raid on three Palestinian terrorist
bases near the northern Lebanese
port city of Tripoli. Accurate hits
were reported and all Israeli
planes returned safely to their
base, according to an IDF
spokesman.
Beirut Radio reported large
fires blazing in the targeted areas,
with many casualties. The
Lebanese reports linked the mid-
afternoon air attacks to car-bomb
attacks in the south Lebanon se-
curity zone which killed 10
Lebanese civilians and two
soldiers of the Israeli-backed
South Lebanon Army (SLA). Two
IDF soldiers were also wounded in
the suicide car bombing attacks.
