world chairman, has been elected
to the Board of Governors of the
Jewish Agency.
Rivlin, who was Director-
General of the Jewish Agency
from 1966 to 1977, will represent
the World Zionist Organization
on the Board.

No Conversion,
Ethiopians Say

Jerusalem (JTA) — Ethiopian
Jews in absorption centers all
over the country protested angrily
Sunday against the insistence by
the Chief Rabbinate that they
undergo a formal conversion
ceremony — immersion but not
symbolic circumcision.
The protesters declared this
demand constituted a grave insult
and questioned their authenticity
as Jews. They noted they endured
severe hardship and suffering to
get out of Ethiopia and find their
way to Israel. They are being sin-
gled out as no other Jewish
emigre group and it is demeaning
to have their Judaism doubted,
they said.
Many of the immigrants re-
fused to attend their Hebrew
classes Sunday and others reftthed
to report for work. The Rabbinate
claimed the protests were only
marginal, artificially fanned by
"certain" activists.

Coalition Gets
Mixed Reviews

Tel Aviv(JTA) — A poll pub-
lished in Maariv Sunday showed
that 56.6 percent of the respon-
dents are dissatisfied with the

way the unity coalition govern-
ment is handling political affairs.
But almost the identical number,
56.5 percent, expressed satisfac-
tion with the way defense and se-
curity matters were being hand-
led, according to the poll taken by
the Modi'in in Ezrachi Institute.
A similar poll taken last March
showed 62.3 percent were happy
with the way the government was
handing political affairs and 32.3
percent were unhappy.
