FIRST

A unique way to say happy birthday, hello to
a new baby, get well soon, thinking of you,
thank you, so sorry or welcome your out of
town guests.

periencing swastikas, and on the
other hand there is probably more
interest in our programs training
teachers than ever before.
"On the one hand, David Hon-
igman has been able to introduce
two important bills — one outlaw-
ing paramilitary training camps
in Michigan, and the other going
after ethnically or religiously or
racially motivated vandalism —
and on the other we saw two reso-
lutions introduced in Lansing, as
part of a national campaign
spearheaded by elements in the
Slavic communities, to attack the
Office of Special Investigations
prosecutions of Nazi war crimi-
nals. Fortunately, neither resolu-
tion got very far in the legisla-
ture."
Joel Gershenson, former co-
chairman of the Detroit Soviet
Jewry Committee, presented a
program on Soviet Jewry, featur-
ing, among other things, an ac-
tual Soviet television program at-
tacking Jews, "Zionist agents,"
and refuseniks.
He spoke about the special
plight of Soviet Hebrew teachers,
and called for "vigorous and
dynamic programs to keep the
question of Soviet Jews a major
agenda item of the Jewish com-
munity."
ADL's Michigan Director, Dick
Lobenthal, expressed concern
that the recent Shiite hijacking of
TWA flight 847 ". . . might actu-
ally be a watershed event; it may
be the first time that the hijackers
got what they wanted, and it may
set a precedent to go after Ameri-
cans any time dissidents or ac-
tivists concerned about any coun-
try in file world, wanted to get
press."
Persons interested in becoming
involved with the ADL program
or volunteering their services to
ADL may do so by calling the ADL
offce, -962-9686, during business
hours.
