The Court ruled as unconstitu- tional a program in Grand Rapids which sends public school teachers into parochial schools during the school day to teach re- medial math and reading, art, music and physical education. It also sends teachers after school to offer gymnastics, home econom- ics, Spanish and drama. The Court also struck down New York City's use of federal education funds to pay public school teachers who teach in parochial schools in a program aimed at helping low income, edu- cationally deprived children. Dennis Rapps, executive direc- tor of the National Jewish Com- mission on Law and Public Affairs (COLPA), said the effect of the in- validations of the New York pro- gram will be severe for children attending Jewish religious schools. He said it appeared, in the light of the Supreme court rul- ings that the only constitutional method of providing the federally-funded remedial serv- ices by public school teachers would be off the premises of the religious school. • PROFESSIONAL, QUALITY SERVICE FOR HOME, APARTMENT AND INDUSTRY • SERVICING SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN FOR 50 YEARS IN ALL PHASES OF PEST CONTROL .
