Cardiovascular Therapy
Available At Sinai
Persons who suffer from a
cardiovascular condition may
find help through one of Sinai
Hospital's five cardiovascular
research clinics, which have
aided heart disease sufferers
since 1980.
The cardiovascular clinics are
involved in several areas of re-
search for the treatment of
chronic health problems, includ-
ing arrhythmia (irregular heart
beat), heart failure, angina
(chest pain related to coronary
artery disease), hypertension
(high blood pressure), and
hyperlipidemia (high blood fat
levels). Many of the research
studies are supported by grants,
allowing patients to obtain free
medical care for exams and re-
lated testing.
More than 300 patients with
irregular care for heart beats
have been treated at Sinai's ar-
rhythmia clinic.

At the heart failure clinic, the
focus is on patient management
and patient/family education.
Sinai's angina clinic concen-
trates on re-evaluation of a
patient's current lifestyle and
use of new drugs in treating this
condition.
The newest of the clinics, for
hypertension, concentrates on
initial blood pressure screening
and patient compliance and
prescribed treatment programs.
The recently established lipid
clinic, working in conjunction
with Sinai's cardiac rehabilita-
tion program, studies the effect
of diet, drugs and exercise on
blood lipid (cholesterol and trig-
lyceride) levels.
Dr. Roger D. Blevins is direc-
tor of Sinai's cardiovascular re-
search clinics.
