ballads through the fine music
system ... and great acoustics.
No silly-looking togas on
waitpersons Modesta, Man-
uel and Stefan don't go that way
out Roman-style ... All wear
tuxedos and look resplendent ...
A liquor license is in the offing
• Ristorante Di. Modesta is a
prime reason why Sen. Jack Fa-
xon's pending bill whereas res-
taurants could serve beer and
wine would be a blessing ...
Italian food, Northern, South-
ern, Eastern, Western, Roman
or whatever, without wine to
many is almost like swimming
without water ... But good food
will always win out, no matter
... And this Ristorante Di Mod-
esta does have.
Fresh fish is broiled or made
with marinara sauce ... Mod-
esta prepares all the homethade
pasta ... Lasagna Bologneso
(with veal sauce) ... Lasagna
Fiorentina (with fresh spinach
and white sauce) ... Cannelloni
Con Vitello (homemade noodle
stuffed with fresh ground veal
and spinach) . . . Manicotti
Fiorentina (ricotta cheese and
spinach) ... Linguini with white
or red clam sauce ... Fettucini
Verde (green noodles with light
cream sauce) ...
Minestrone soup is all vegeta-
ble ... made fresh without use
of any meat stock whatsoever
• Stracciatella is like egg drop
soup (lemon, eggs and par-
migiana cheese) or there's good
ol' chicken soup with quadret-
tini (square noodles).
The menu is short and sweet

Vittello Di Casa (choice of
any of three veal dishes of the
day or whatever veal is desired)
Vittello Di Manuel (three
scallopini pieces of veal sauteed
in white wine and fresh tomato
sauce) ... Polio Con Rosmarino
(whole boneless breast of chic-
ken marinated an entire day in
fresh garlic, fresh rosemary,
olive oil and white wine) ...
Polio Con Lemone (boneless
breast of chicken lightly sauteed
with lemon butter) ... Peace Del
Giorno (fish of the day) ... New
York Strip ... Zuppa Di Mare
(Italian bouliabasse with mus-
sels, clams, shrimp and fish
catch, made in a white wine
sauce) ... Entrees also include
choice of pasta and vegetable
besides the Caponatti salad
(marinated mixture of all fresh
vegetables — carrots, green
pepper, cauliflower, broccoli,
mushrooms, yellow summer
squash, onions and zucchini).
The desserts don't reveal too
much imagination with spumoni
or cannoli, but- these will most
certainly change ... and valet
parking may be added.
Ristorante Di Modesta is a
seven-days-a-week operation ...
Monday-Friday, lunch 11:30 to
3; dinner Monday-Thursday,
5:30-10; Friday and Saturday
5:30-11; Sunday 5-9 ... that
opened much ahead of schedule
on June 5 ... Stylish-looking
customers are appropriately
dressed for this class operation
with reasonable prices ... The
way things look, don't go with-
out a reservation at any time

unless you want to take a
chance or feel like waiting a bit
... There's no sign yet in front,
but Ristoronti Di Modesta is not
a secret anymore.
IRVING'S PIC-A-DELI,
Greenfield, north of 11 Mile, has
closed ... and may be taken
over by new owners ... who will
also rename it.
JERRY GUTTMAN will cer-
tainly join mom and dad, Rose
and Irving Guttman, when they
open their delicatessen-

IT'LL BE A show, concert
and dance rolled into one as
Teen Angels perform at Troy
Hilton Inn's Summer Nights do-
ings tonight, July 5 and July - 12
. One of Detroit's hardest
working, most original groups,
the Teen Angels combine var-
ious costumed show numbers;
with their top 40 and cross-over
rock for entertainment, good lis-
tening and dancing .. The con-
certs are in Hilton's outdoor
courtyard at poolside, 5:30 p.m.
to 12:30 a.m. ... Doors open at
5 and admission is free until
7:30 when a $5 charge goes into
effect ... The group changes
costumes as many as six times
during a show ... doing num-
bers all the way from 50's
"doo-wop" to today's chart tops.
DOUG JACOBS and The
Red Garter Band return to
P'Jazz on terrace of Hotel
Pontchartrain, downtown,
fireworks night this Monday,
6:45 ... Doug and his Dixieland
group have been a favorite, of
P'Jazz audiences 'for several
years, playing traditional
fireworks night concert ... Plus
successful parties for Michigan's
top corporations, country clubs
and leading political figures,
Doug and his band also find
time to cheer the faces and cof-
fers of new business openings
and charity fund-raisers ... The
Red Garter Band has been
"house band" for Jerry Lewis
Muscular Dystrophy Telethon
past 15 years.
FOLKS MAY YET BE
ABLE to have wine with their
veal or beer with a corned beef
sandwich, etc. ... State Sen.
Jack Faxon's bill to allow
limited number of tavern
licenses (beer and wine) on basis
of community's need rather than
age-old way based on full-time
resident population ....has been
approved by the state Senate ...
All needed now is okay by
House of Representatives.
TOP OF THE PARK is new
name of former Stoney's, Sak-
sey's and Rampart Street, corner
Woodward and Seven Mile ...
Chef Darla Burgess is said to be
putting out some food that
brings back great memories ...
All it needs now would be a
Pauline Baron waitress ... She
was Saksey's best one ... and
among this area's finest.
