Survey Raises Questions
On Jewish Influence

Each year around this time,
U.S. News and World Report
conducts a national survey on
"Who Runs America?"
In their May 20 issue, the
weekly magazine reported on the
findings of' their 1985 survey
conducted among 1,177 leaders in
29 fields, Those polled were asked
to list the top ten, then the top 20
and 30 Americans whom they felt
had "the most influence on na-
tional life • whether through
position, ability, personality or
wealth,"
It is of more than passing
interest that not a single Jewish
personality is included among
the top ten, Nine of the top ten
are in the federal government;
"proximity to the President" is
the deciding factor, In the second
ten, New York Times publisher
Arthur Sulzberger appears as
17th (Jesse Jackson is 18),
Among the third ton, Katherine
Graham, publisher of the Wash-
ington Post registers as number
21, and Henry Kaufman, the
Wall Street investment banker,
appears as 28th choice, The only
other Jew on the list is New York
Mayor Edward Koch, who is
counted number one among
among mayors,
Significantly, the Protestant
community is represented
through the persons of the Rev,
Jerry Falwell (14), and the Rev,
Billy Graham (who ties with New
York Governor Mario Cuomo at
22), The Catholic presence regis-
ters in the choice of Cardinal
Joseph Bernardin (26) and in the
Rev, Theodore M. Hesburgh,
Notre Dame University
President, who ranks third under
education,
Not a single leader or spokes-
man from Judaism or the Jewish
agencies is listed under any cate-
gory, So much for the canard of
"Jewish power" in America! But
the question still remains; Why
did the U.S. News & World Re-
port editors not see fit to name a
single Jewish leader among their
multiple choice listings? If the
questionnaire is Judenrein,
clearly the responses will be pre-
dictably Judenrein „ .
Beyond that, the Jewish com-
munity must ask itself why is it
that neither any Israeli nor
American Jewish leaders have
registered in any effective way on
the public .consciousness sym-
bolized by this interesting survey
of Who's Who in America and on
the world scene?

Jerusalem (JTA) — Justice
Minister Moshe Nissim an-
nounced that Israel will wait on
drawing a formal conclusion on
the identity of the body
exhumed and examined this
month in Brazil and believed to
be that of Josef Mongolo until
Israel exports have examined all
the data,
A team of international foren-
sic experts from West Germany,
Brazil and the United States
indicated that they were con-
vinced that the body exhumed
from a grave in a cemetery near
Sao Paulo was that of the
notorious Nazi death camp doc-

death camp doctor's son, Rolf

was no guilt, and as a conse-
quence there was no room for
