THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS ** * Parley Agenda Stirs Concern United Nations (JTA) — More than 250 items are on the agenda for the conference mark- ing the end of the United Na- tions Decade for Women in Nairobi, Kenya, July 8-16. But one of the items, "Pales- tinian Women," which is number 227 on the list, is threatening to turn the confer- ence into an anti-Israel forum, dominated by Palestine Libera- tion Organization propaganda and anti-Zionist slurs, much as was the case of the last Women's Conference, in Copenhagen in 1980. But this time, Israeli dip- lomats and American Jewish delegates who plan to attend the Nairobi conference, promise that they are going "to fight back" and not be intimidated by the Arabs' attempt to politicize the meeting and use it in their struggle against the State of Is- rael and its legitimacy. "There is no doubt in my mind that the PLO will launch a virulent anti-Israeli campaign in Nairobi, and that it will suc- ceed in passing anti-Zionist and anti-Israeli resolutions," said ne Israeli diplomat at the UN. "But we are not going to let them dominate the conference this time. We hope that we will be able to avoid a public debate on the situation of Palestinian women." quality our performance. Israel's United Nations Am- bassador Benjamin Netanyahu told a meeting of more than 100 rabbis and synagogue presidents, convened by the Synagogue council of America last week, that during the past decade the global UN printing press has utilized this resolution to spread "layers of lies and slander about Zionism and Is- rael throughout the world." He charged that this topic has been featured in a vast amount of propaganda material produced by the United Nations. Netanyahu called for a cam- paign to "expose this resolution, reaffirm Zionism and eventually to press for a repeal of this reso- lution." The Ambassador said that a substitute resolution would require time to adopt, given the complicated UN machinery and the delicacies of international politics. He stressed that Israel knows of many nations willing to vote in favor of repealing the Zionist- Racism statement. 851 - 7022 Judy Verona, Eleanor Heyman • Rabbis Dispute UN Policy * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BRING US YOUR FURS FOR QUICK RE-SALE! are our speciality, high Outstanding in musk, lighting, teaching and dance performance. 588-9499 * * :THE * * * * * * BROADWAY * * * * * * * * * * * * * * SH * * * * * 'DANCE .
