ministrator that does not sit
behind her desk and shuffle
papers. She is out in the
halls, talking with the par-
ents and students. She
knows when a child falls
down in school, or when a
teacher is unprepared in the
classroom. She is organized
and totally in control of
every situation. This multi-
faceted woman has always
created a warm and loving
atmosphere for the children,
while maintaining a strict
standard of excellence for the
teachers.
Gilson has not decided
what she is going to do in
the coming months. Al-
though the congregation an-
nounced "with reluctance"
her, retirement, Gilson balks
at the word. "Retirement
means withdraw, hibernate
and separate. I'm not going
to do any of those things,"
she says, reading the defini-
tions from a dictionary. "I
am looking forward to a new
challenge."
And then she. adds some-
thing that is already evident:
"I am not going to stag-
nate." [1]

Canal Funds
Transferred

H

to

H

Jerusalem (JTA) — Premier
Shimon Peres supports the idea
of diverting the funds for the de-
funct Mediterranean Dead Sea
Canal to the development of two
scientific zones, one in the
Galilee and the other in the
Negev.
Peres referred to the issue
during a visit to the Northern
development town of Karmiel.
The canal was a prestigious de-
velopment project of the Likud
government, aiming to use the
difference in altitudes between
the Mediterranean and the Dead
Sea for the production of power.
It was described as a project
which would revolutionize the
energy systems in Israel, and on
that basis Israel Bonds recruited
considerable funds overseas.
Last week, the Ministry of
Energy and Infrastructure offi-
cially gave the order to halt all
additional work on the canal,
after the Ministry had reached
the definite conclusion that the
canal was no longer feasible.

NY Law Hit

New York (JTA) — Reform
leaders have sharply attacked a
proposed amendment to the New
York Public Health Law which,
according to the bill's sponsor,
seeks to inform parents of new
cr, born children that a circumci-
sion performed by a doctor or
other "non-religious practitioner
may not satisfy the religious re-
quirements of any faith."
