heavy farm equipment, "is
believed to have offices in
Asuncion, Paraguay, and
Buenos Aires, Argentina,
and could serve as a
mechanism to move or
launder large sums of
money, as well as to cover
the movement of illicit
narcotics," according to
CIA documents.

1972: CIA reports that
while living in Paraguay
at a "well-guarded ranch,"
he is "protected by
Stroessner," then
President of Paraguay.

1970's: Wolfram
and
Liselotte Bossert, an Aust-
rian couple who immig-
rated to Brazil, claim they
housed Mengele at their
home in ,Sao Paulo, Brazil.

1979: A man, buried
under the name of
Wolfgang Gerhard, drowns
in February in a swim-
ming accident near Sao
Paulo. The Bosserts sub-
sequently claim that the
man was Mengele. Around
Christmas 1979, Mengele's
son, Rolf, a lawyer in
Freiburg, West Germany,
visits Sao Paulo reportedly
to retrieve his father's be-
longings, including docu-
ments and a gold watch.
