Fourteen seventh and eighth
grade students from Akiva He-
brew Day School participated in
the Midwest Talent Search Proj-
ect of Northwestern University.
They are: Jeff Traurig, Joel
Strimling, Susan 'Schlussel,
Daniel Betsalel, Geoffrey Berdy,
Dov Chelst, David Herman, Alisa
Guyer, Beth Bodzin, Gabrielle
Albert, Aliza Pear berg, Ron
Meisler, Noam Koenigsberg and
David Jarcaig.
The project seeks junior high
students who are academically
talented. The students qualified
for the program by scoring in the
95th percentile or higher on the
verbal or mathematical portion of
a standardized in-grade achieve-
ment test.
The students took the College
Board's Scholastic Aptitude Test,
which is usually taken by high
school juniors and seniors, to de-
termine students' abilities.
The 14 youth received certifi-
cates of recognition and a listing
of summer and academic year
programs designed especially for
academically talented students.

Youth Programs
The Southfield Public Library
is planning many activities for
children this summer. "Summer
Fun at the Library for Toddlers,"
a four-week series for children
24-35 months starts July 9 and
"Buccaneers and Books," a
summer-long program for
school-age children, begins Wed-
nesday at 2:30 p.m.
The library is also sponsoring
drop-in story times for pre-
schoolers, 3-5 years old, at 10:30
a.m. starting Thursday.
Registration is required for the
toddler program. Admission is
free for "Buccaneers and Books,"
with a ticket given to children liv-
ing or attending school in South-
field or Lathrup Village.
