The American Jewish Congress
continues to serve the Detroit
area through the efforts of its lay
leadership, despite last month's
closing of the local AJCongress
office by the organization's parent
office in New York.
"We no longer have profes-
sional staffers, but we are defi-
nitely functioning," Martin
Adelman, local president of the
AJCongress said last week. De-
troit residents seeking AJCon.-
gress services or materials may
contact the organization's
regional office in Chicago or local
board members, according to
Adelman. Calls for the AJCon-
gress are also being taken by the
Jewish Community Council's In-
formation and Resource Center,
352-6166.
There are about 500 AJCon-
gress members in the Detroit
area, Adelman said.

"The

American Jewish Congress
President Theodore R. Mann will
be the guest speaker at the annual
AJCongress Rose Frenkel Meet-
ing, 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek.
Mann, a Philadelphia attorney
who has served as chairman of the
Conference of Presidents of Major
American Jewish Organizations
and is past president of the Na-
tional Conference on Soviet
Jewry, will speak on "Religious
Liberty: The Root of All Our Free-
doms." The annual meeting is
sponsored by the Rose Frenkel
Memorial Fund. The fund was es-
tablished by the late Mrs. Fren-
kel's daughter, Sheila Ellman, as
a tribute to her mother's devotion
to the Detroit branch of the AJ-
Congress.
Reservations are requested for
the event, which is free and open
to the public. Refreshments will
be served.
For reservations or informa-
tion, contact Elma Rader, 353-
