Last year Brose was ranked No. 1 in the Midwest in his age group. "I love playing in tourna- ments. This age group thing has made it feasible. If they didn't have it there'd be no way a guy my age could compete. This goes up to 85- and-over. "You go out and play in tournaments at a national level and you run into guys you played as a kid. Of course, there isn't the crazi- ness there was when you were a kid. There's not as much emotion." "It's a game, unlike running, where there's strategy and so forth. I got - started at the Jewish Center and have been playing for about 20 years. I've been city and state champion and at one time (1977) I was ranked No. 2 in the country." - Linden says he also has held a top ranking for 35 and over in international rules and was New York city champion.
