T

and runs to see what your
physical abilities are," he
explains. "Then we played
some games and a determi-
nation was made from that.
They picked 22 people, 15 to
participate at any one time
and seven reserves, as well
as eight alternates."
Zatz got interested in
rugby at U-M through a
friend and began playing on
the club team.
"I like to win. That's the
ultimate goal," he says, "but
not to the extent that you
lose sight of the fact the
game is for fun. It's not a
professional sport. As long as
you do your best, win or lose,
it doesn't matter. I think
that's the way most people
who play rugby think. They
play hard, but once the game
is over there are no hard
feelings."
Rugby, high diving, fast-
pitch softball and rhythmic
gymnastics are being intro-
duced this year at the Mac-
cabiah Games. Other sports
are included that weren't re-
presented at the Los Angeles
Olympics last year: cricket,
badminton, field hockey,
squash and golf.
Zatz is one of the two
rugby players from Michi-
gan. The other is Curtis
Small of East Lansing.*Join-
ing Greenspan on the track
and field contingent are
David Krafsur of Southfield,
David Olds of Bloomfield
Hills, Charles Greene of
Kalamazoo and 13-year-old
Barak Barfi of West Bloom-
field — the only member of
the Junior Team, consisting
of athletes 15 and under.
Barfi was born in Israel and
emigrated to the U.S. as an
infant.
Leonard Brose, 58, of Bir-
mingham, was selected to
the Masters tennis team,
while Jonathan Kamisar of
Ann Arbor is a member of
the regular tennis squad.
Two squash players from the
state were selected, Eugene
Perle of West Bloomfield and
David Linden of Birming-
ham. Janice Margulies is a
member of the women's vol-
leyball team, while diver
Laurie Israel, her brother
David and fellow swimmer
Jeffrey Kuvin, round out the
Michigan group. They are
from Ann Arbor.
Jay Robinson of West
Bloomfield has been named
manager of the Junior Team,
as was his wife Barbara,
while their son Aaron will be
an assistant manager. Jack
