Nathan Fishman
Nathan "Pappy" Fishman,
founder and chairman of the
board of Star Steel Supply Co.,
died May 22 at age 90.
A native of Russia, Mr.
Fishman came to the U.S. in 1913.
He founded his company in 1921.
A noted philanthropist, Mr.
Fishman aimed his generosity at
projects for children. Thirty years
ago he built the Fishman Village
at Camp Tamarack to provide a
camping experience for under-
privileged children. He also estab-
lished five annual scholarships to
send high school students to Israel
for the summer.
Mr. Fishman was a founder of
Sinai Hospital of Detroit and
endowed its Nathan Fishman Re-
habilitation Center and the new
emergency facility. He also
Muriel N. Robinove, a teacher
in the Detroit Public Schools for
more than 40 years, died May 26
at age 87.
Born in Big Rapids, Mich., Mrs.
Robinove lived many years in De-
troit prior to making her home in
Fairfax, Va.
Mrs. Robinove taught French
literature, grammar and writing.
She was a founder of the Michigan

Sara Goldberg Darvin, co-
founder and past president of the
Detroit League of National
Jewish Hospital/National
Asthma Center and a past na-
tional board member, died May 25
at age 82.
Born in Lynn, Mass., Mrs. Dar-
yin lived many years in Detroit
prior to moving to Hackensack,
N.J. She was active in the USO
during World War II. Mrs. Darvin
was a former member of Temple
Israel.

for "her dedication to French lan-
guage and culture." She also was
a member of Temple Beth El. •
She leaves a son, Charles J. of
Fairfax; and a sister, Mrs. Her-
bert (Krana) Goldsmith of Roslin-
dale, Mass. Interment Detroit.

She leaves her husband,
Joseph; a son, Harry Goldberg,
Jr., of Farmington Hills; a sister,
Mrs. Martin (Suzanne) Deutsch of
Cambridge, Mass.; three grand-
children and one great-grand-
daughter. Interment Detroit.
Jean Arkin
Jean Arkin, a kindergarten
teacher in Detroit, died May 28 at
age 76.
Born in Rhode Island, Mrs.
Arkin also taught as a substitute
at the Roosevelt Elementary
School in Detroit. She was a
member of Hadassah, Jewish
Home for Aged Auxiliary, Temple
Israel and founded the temple's
Temple Treasures group. She also
was a former member of the Far-
mington Family Players.
She leaves a daughter, Mrs.
Ronald (Diane) Davis; a sister,
Mrs. Benjamin (Elaine) Sidney of
Cleveland, Ohio; and three
grandsons.
Esther P. Galin
Esther P. Galin, founder and
owner of Galin Realty, died May
25 at age 80.
Born in Lithuania, Mrs. Galin
resided in the Detroit area prior to
retiring to Laguna Hills, Calif.
She was an original board
member and owner of the Great
Lakes Title and Mortgage Co.
(1965-1977). She was a member of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek and Hadas-
sah.
She leaves a son, Robert of
Laguna Miguel, Calif.; a daugh-
ter, Mrs. Irving (Rhonda)
Schwartz of Cincinnati, Ohio; a
brother, Martin Hackelman of
Oak Park; and one grandson.
Interment Detroit.
Isaac Charchat
New York — Isaac Charchat,
president of United Cargo Corp.
and author of A Constant Remin-
der, a book about anti-Semitism
in Europe, died May 25 at age 81.
