Students at the Shaare Zedek Hospital School of Nursing in
Jerusalem.
The Scholarship Committee
for the Shaare Zedek Hospital
School of Nursing in Jerusalem
will hold its fourth annual
luncheon noon June 25 at the
Summit Apts. club house.
Three years ago this group
undertook to provide all 26
members of the 1985 class with
scholarships. These young
nurses will graduate in October,
and a delegation of the Detroit
Friends will be present.
Training of qualified nurses
have become a very critical
problem in Israel. Shaare Zedek
School of Nursing has estab-
lished a close relationship with
Bar-Ilan University. Once a
week, the students attend spe-
cial classes at Bar-Ilan and
Bar-Ilan instructors teach at the
nursing school.
According to Mrs. Rachel
Meir, director of the school,
Shaare Zedek hopes to imple-
ment a program upgrading the
status of nurses. The proposal is
to replace the 3-year diploma
course with a 4-year course
culminating in a baccalaureate
degree.
With a current student body
of 90 girls, it is believed that
the number could expand to 200.
The facilities already exist in
the eight-story SZ School of
Nursing.
At the luncheon on June 25,
the Detroit Scholarship Commit-
tee will inaugurate a new pro-
gram providing scholarships for
the class of 1988. Prof. Arthur I.
Eidelman, director of the
Neonatology Department at the
SZ Medical Center, will be the
guest speaker.
Mrs. Pearl Nosanchuk, in-
itiator of the Detroit scholarship
program, is honorary luncheon
chairperson. Luncheon chairper-
sons are Mrs. Julius Feigelman
and Mrs. Donald Scharfman.
For scholarship information or
luncheon reservations, call Mrs.
Nosanchuk, 356-7936, or Ilsa
Roberg, 544-8412.
