The resolution was adopted by the Association of Reform Zionists of America (ARZA), speaking for the entire Reform movement, at a meeting of its executive committee last week. It said that most Knesset mem- bers "have little or no under- standing of non-Orthodox Judaism, or about the anger which Reform Jews feel toward efforts to delegitimize their movement." This, the resolution went on, demonstrated "the need to educate all Knesset members." ARZA also observed that "progressive movements com- mitted to pluralism cannot in good conscience support boycotts or blacklists against individuals because of a vote they have cast; most one-issue boycotts are wrong in principle and ineffec- tive in practice." The Law of Return amend- ment, proposed and supported by Orthodox and ultra-Orthodox forces, was defeated in a vote in January, but 51 Knesset mem- bers supported it. Recently the (Conservative) Rabbinical As- sembly, recommended that Knesset members who favor amending the law be barred as speakers or honorees at Conser- vative synagogues. Prisoner Ends Hunger Strike Jerusalem (JTA) — The Jewish terrorist who fired an anti-tank missile at an Arab bus last year stopped his three-day hunger strike May 23. Ben- Shimon went on a hunger strike following the release of the Arab terrorists. He demanded that he, too, be released. Ben-Shimon was persuaded to start eating again by his father and Likud Knesseter Kov Shilansky. Both were summoned to the prison by the chief war- den. Two of the Arab terrorists re- leased last week left the ter- ritories for fear of revenge by Jews. The two are residents of the- Beduin village of Faradis. They were sentenced to lengthy prison terms for the murder of David Rosenfeld in the nearby archeological site of Herodion, three years ago. They decided to leave after several nights of harrassment by Jewish settlers, which involved smashing win- dows and spreading red paint on the doorstep of one of the homes. in the meantime, tourism Minister Avraham Sharir of the Likud has begun canvassing his colleagues, as part of his cam- paign to introduce the death penalty for terrorists. Sharir hopes to win majority support for his proposal.
