Dr. Joel Hamburger
"Technion — Medical Educa-
tion and Research" will be dis-
cussed by Dr. David Barzilai at
the American Technion Society,
Detroit Chapter public meeting to
be held on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.
at Cong. Beth Achim.
Chairing the meeting will be
Dr. Joel I. Hamburger, who is a
Detroit Chapter board member.
Prof. Barzilai occupies the Dr.
Joel I. Hamburger Chair in Clini-
cal Thyroidology at the Technion
Medical School. He is the im-
mediate past dean of the medical
school. He is presently visiting
professor, New York Cornell Med-
ical Center, division of geriatrics
and gerontology, involved in re-
search on aging. He was born in
Haifa, Israel, and was graduated
from high school there. He served
with the Jewish Brigade Group of
the British Eighth Army in Af-
rica, and Europe during World
War II.
After medical studies in
Geneva and at Hebrew Univer-
sity, Dr. Barzilai had a residency
in internal medicine at the Ram-
barn Government Hospital in
Haifa. He was appointed the di-
rector of internal medicine and
endocrinology at the hospital.
Dr. Barzilai has received a
number of fellowships, among
them: visiting professor at Har-
vard Medical School and at Sin-
gapore Medical Hospital. He
spent a year as visiting scientist
at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering
Cancer Institute. Prof. Barzilai is
a member of the board of editors,
Israel Journal of Medical Sci-
ences.
