Designers • Dealers Welcome Washington (JTA) — The cen- tral body of Reform Judaism in the U.S. and a leading black civil rights organization have an- nounced the conclusion of a joint program of action that includes ef- forts to send black and Jewish youth to Africa and Israel, con- tinued backing of affirmative ac- tion programs for blacks and sup- port for economic sanctions against South Africa. The join plan was the product of a two-day conference of the Kivie Kaplan Institute — a join project of the Union of American Hebrew Cl Congregations (UAHC) and the National Association for the Ad- vancement of Colored People (NAACP). Benjamin Hooks, president of the NAACP, and Rabbi Alexander Schindler, president of the UAHC, an- nounced the results of the confer- ence last week in Washington. "We came together for this con- ference at a time when events of great significance to us were tak- ing place," the joint statement said. "Together, we spoke out against the evil of apartheid in South Africa and against the per- secution of Jews in the Soviet Union." The two organizations agreed to implement a legislative program that includes support for sanc- tions against South Africa and the separation of church and state. An effort will be made as well to in- crease black and Jewish partici- pation in joint activities and to expand black-Jewish dialogue in committees around the country. 543-5410 VISA' call PAUL BRASCH (formerly Brasch Imports) 720 W. These groups have shown an in- creased tendency to resort to vio- lence and are a potential source of subversive activities which are relatively difficult to monitor, the report, prepared by the govern- ment Agency for the Protection of the Constitution, stated. It also devoted a section to Palestinian terrorist organizations operating in West Germany. According to the report, many of the 89 organizations have a membership of only a few ac- tivists. The largest and most dangerous are the "German Peoples Union" with more than 12,000 members, led by Gerhard Frey, publisher of the Munich- based neo-Nazi weekly National Zeitung; and the National Demo- cratic Party (NPD) with a mem- bership of about 6,000. About a decade ago, the NPD participated in national, state and local elec- tions. A notable omission from the re- port is "Hiag," the umbrella organizations of veterans of the Nazi SS and Waffen SS, divisions which hold annual reunions, usu- ally in small resort towns. • • XCALIB PANEL MEMBERS: DR.
