Sister Carol Rittner, who has
been actively involved in
Jewish-Christian dialogue, has
frequently led study missions to
Israel, and has worked exten-
sively in Holocaust education,
will be honored for her efforts at
the Jewish Community Council's
final Delegate Assembly of the
year, at 8 p.m. May 23. at Adat
Shalom Synagogue.
Sister Carol will be cited for her
role as Project Director for the
"Faith in Humankind: Rescuers
of Jews During the Holocaust"
Conference sponsored last year by
the U.S. Holocaust Memorial
Council in Washington, D.C.
For the past several years, Sis-
ter Carol has taught courses on
the Holocaust, as well as courses
about Elie Wiesel.
Since 1982, Sister Carol has
been a special adviser to Elie
Wiesel, chairman of the U.S.
Holocaust Memorial Council.
Among the programs she or-
ganized at Mercy College of De-
troit were a 1978 series of lec-
tures, "Violence and the Vio-
lated," and in 1980, a ten-week
interdisciplinary program
entitled "After Auschwitz: Vision
or Void?"
Following the special presenta-
tion to Sister Carol, Edward J.
Derwinski of the U.S. Depart-
ment of State, will deliver the
keynote address. The agenda also
includes the annual election of
Council officers and members of
the Council executive committee.
The entire Jewish community
is invited. There is no charge.
Only duly appointed and regis-
tered delegates or their alternates
are eligible to vote in the elec-
tions.
Vision Screening
"Vision Days '85," a free eye
screening program will take place
Tuesday and Wednesday at the
Tel-12 Mall.
Participants will be screened by
health care professionals for
vision acuity and eye diseases
such as cataracts, glaucoma, tear-
ing problems, and retinal disor-
ders. Information on contact
lenses will be available, and
minor adjustments on eye glasses
will be made.
