TV Apology
London (JTA) — Malaysia's
commercial television network is-
sued an apology last week for hav-
ing broadcast a program on the
life of former Israeli Prime Minis-
ter Golda Meir and the establish-
ment of Israel, the World Jewish
Congress (WJC) reported Sunday.
According to WJC monitoring
sources in London, the apology
followed the showing of an episode
of the U.S.-produced series
Against the Odds on Malaysia's
privately-run television station,
"TV-3."
The government of Malaysia, a
predominately Moslem country,
had in the past made clear that it
discouraged the dissemination of
material on Israel or the pre-
sentation of works of Jewish ori-
gin.
A spokesman for the station
said that the showing of the
American-made program on
Golda Meir during the children's
viewing hours was "very deeply
regretted."
