AT STRIKE & SPARE Bowl- ing Lanes recently, Jewish War Veterans held annual bowling night for JARC and group home citizens . . . It's last night of bowl- ing for the season, and JWV gives this night to the "special" people. Jeff Lutz fashioned the evening and collected trophies from many bowlers, plus purchasing some at garage sales . . . He fixed and polished them . . . spending many months preparing for this one night . . . As a result, 60 bowlers received 60 huge trophies . . . a truly wonderful deed. Betty Cohen writes, "If anyone could see the faces of these people as they received the trophy from Jeff, it would melt stone. They were so proud and excited to have accomplished this difficult achievement over such severe odds. Many are retarded but some are physically handicapped as well. The 60 citizens that showed up and bowled are a tribute to the groups that sponsor them. It is ob- vious that the well-being of these people has tremendously ad- vanced over the years." LOU BARDEN, local barris- ter, has been asked to appear sec- ond time for Temple Beth El's Middle Years Group, May- 19, 1 p.m. . . . His topic will be "Laugh and Stay Young." When chairman Clement Weitzman called him, Lou said he'd have to remember stories that he told the last time so as not to repeat any when speaking on "Jewish Humor — What's Funny About it?" . . . Clem called to re- confirm his appearance and was told by Lou . . . "I told my wife, Mamie, about the request for my second appearance. The following day when I returned from my office, she handed me a note which read: 'If you remember all of the stories with all the words that mold them, how come you forget how many times you've told them? Signed, Anonymously yours with Love — Mamie.'" A VERY HEALTHY AND HAPPY . . . MOTHER'S DAY . . . to all the wonderful gals for whom Sunday is their own very personal day . . . Our mom, Mrs. Minnie Raskin used to say, "Why the fuss? Every day is Mother's Day," but she always secretly looked forward to this great occa- sion . . . Like so many others, Mom liked to give more than she received . . . and it was important for us all to recognize this particu- lar day . . . So if you have your mom . . . show her lots and lots of love . . . she deserves it. Baseball Benefit Tickets are available for "Len Gilman Night at the Ball Park."
