The
Haverim Home was developed in
conjunction with Macomb-
Oakland Regional Center, the
agency representing the Michi-
gan Department of Mental Health
in Oakland County.
JARC operates seven other
Haverim Home; two are located in
Southfield, two in Oak Park, one
in Huntington Woods, one in
Pleasant Ridge and one in Be-
verly Hills. JARC also operates
the Aaron and Helen L. DeRoy
Independent Apartment Program
designed to prepare, place and
supervise mentally retarded per-
sons in apartments throughout
the community. The association
offers help to the 150 families
waiting for home placement
through its Family Assistance
Program.

The Jewish Association for Re-
tarded Citizens celebrated the
formal opening of the Samuel and
Rebecca Greenberg/Joseph
Shiffman Haverim Home in
Franklin on Sunday.
Following President Ron
Stone's remarks Rabbi Efry
Spectre dedicated the eighth
JARC home. The Greenberg/
Shiffman Haverim Home was es-
tablished through the gift of the
house to JARC by: A.S. Green,
Nathan Greenberg, Dr. Milton
Shiffman, Dr. Ben Stein, Esther
Stein, Val Valinsky and the Es-
tate of Louis Greenberg.
The Greenberg/Shiffman Home
is now home for six men, all of
whom have lived most of their
lives in insitutions, and the
home's resident manager. Super-
vision is provided to the residents
by trained staff 24 hours a day.
During the week, five of the resi-
dents are involved in a work ac-
tivities program at Jewish Voca-
tional Service and one resident

Moishe Haar
Mina Bern and Shoshana Ron

The Moishe Haar Memorial
Foundation will hold its annual
cultural event, sponsored by De-
troit's Sholem Aleichem Institute
in memory of Mr. Moishe Haar at
8 p.m. May 19 in Temple Beth El's
Handleman Hall.
Mr. Haar was the director of the
institute for many years. The in-
stitute is a secular, Jewish, cul-
tural and educational organiza-
tion.
The evening will feature Mina
Bern and Shoshana Ron, in "Let
There Be Joy," an evening of song,
humor and nostalgia.

Bern attended dramatic school
in Poland and in 1944 went to
Palestine where she became a
leading lady at the Li-La-Lo The-
ater in Tel Aviv. In 1949, she was
invited to the United States to
star in "Shalom Tel Aviv" at the
National Theater. She starred on
Broadway in three productions,
Let's Sing Yiddish, Light, Lively
and Yiddish and sing, Israel Sing.
Recently she played a major part
in the movie Tenement.
Ron was born in Poland and
raised in Russia. She displayed
her talent at an early age, win-
ning numerous awards . .
After settling in Israel, she
served in the Israeli army and
continued her musical career.
Since her arrival in the U.S., she
has appeared with Jan Peerce,
Carol Channing, Sam Levenson
and Alan King.
Malke Gottlieb, accompanist, is
a concert pianist, a composer of
children's songs, and co-editor of
We Are Here, Songs of the
Holocaust, and Yomtivdike Teg.
Currently, she is the musical di-
rector, arranger and accompanist
for the musical montage, A Re-
ndevous With Itzik Manger.
The public is invited free of
charge.
