Jennifer S. Cohen, daughter of
Annie and Rob Cohen, and Hill-
ary Bet Weiser, daughter of Cindy
and Fred Weiser, will twin their
b'not mitzvah with Gabriella
Reich of the USSR, on Saturday at
Temple Israel.
Gabriella, forbidden by Russian
law to celebrate this occasion her-
self, is the daughter of Eva and
Adolf Reich. Her father is a
mechanical engineer and his wife
is an economist. Neither one has
worked in a job that could be
classified as requiring security
clearace. Both girls have written
to Gabriella on several occasions
but have not gotten any replies.
The Reich family first applied
for permission to emigrate in Sep-
tember 1978, two months after
Reich's parents arrived in Israel.
The Reichs have been refused
permission to emigrate re-
peatedly for unknown reasons.

B'nai Mitzvah Twin
•Their Ceremonies

Brian Leder and Steven Rosen-
der will twin the observance of
their b'nai mitzvah celebration at
9 a.m. Saturday at Adat Shalom
Synagogue with Evgeny Ozerov,
the son of Valery and Olga Ozerov
of Leningrad, USSR.
Ozerov and his wife are
engineers. Ozerov was graduated
from the Leningrad Shipbuilding
Institute. He worked for many
years in plant design in the gas
and oil industries, turning out
numerous publications and ac-
quiring a number of patents.
When he applied for exit visas
in February 1979, he was forced to
leave his job where he had been
tormented constantly because he
was Jewish. Refusal came six
months later on the grounds of his
father's secrecy. However, the
father had been retired for more
than ten years. -
He works as an insurance agent
with a salary of 120 rubles a
month. To add to his problems, his
son has a hearing impairment not
currently treatable in the Soviet
Union.
The family has applied for per-
mission three time but have been
told by officials that their case is
hopeless.

Canadian Jews
Celebrate

Montreal GJTA) — Israeli
Memorial Day and Independence
Day were celebrated last week in
the Montreal Jewish community
with pledges for better Jewish
education and intensified aliyah.
Some 2,000 people participated
in Yom Hazikaron festivities at
the Expo Theater. Twenty-four
young persons preparing to make
aliyah to the Jewish state led the
commemoration of Israel's war
casualties.
On hand to help mark Indepen-
dence Day were, among others,
Canadian Zionist Federation
President Israel Nerry Bloomfield
and Yaakov Aviad, Consul Gen-
eral of Israel for Canada.
