Hebrew Music
Festival At Beth El

Temple Beth El will have its
31st annual Hebrew Music Festi-
val at 8:30 p.m. May 10 in the
temple.
The music festival is sponsored
by the Sandra T. Bloom Memorial
Music Fund, under the auspices of
Barbara and Douglas Bloom.
The program will feature music
by women composers performed
by women musicians.
Performers include the Rosner
Trio, violinist Elizabeth Rowin,
pianist Lillian R. Zellman as well
as the regular, augmented, reli-
gious school choirs and the temple
chorale conducted by Mrs. Jason
Tickton. The guest choir will be
the Cantata Academy, conducted
by Frederick Bellinger. The pro-
gram includes the Aaron Copland
anthem Sing Ye Praises, organ
prelude and postlude by Harriet
Lewis Moser; Ponderment, • by
Cindy Rosner Kelly.
Pieces dedicated to the Statue of
Liberty and Emma Lazarus,
author of The New Colossus poem
at the base of the statue, also will
be on the program. These include
Liberty Enlightening the World by
Charles Gounod, The Lady With
the Lamp, by Max Helfman; and
Give Me Your Tired, by Irving Be-
rlin.
Admission is free. The public is
invited.

Wendy Orent

Wendy Orent, a doctoral candi-
date in the department of an-
thropology at the University of
Michigan, will deliver the final
lecture at the B'nai David Cul-
tural Forum at 11 a.m., Sunday at
B'nai David. The forum is entitled
"Israel After Lebanon — Three
Perspectives."
Ms. Orent will speak on "Ethnic
and Religious Tensions in Israel."
She holds a B.A. degree from
the University of Michigan and
M.A. degree in anthropology from
Boston University. She is cur-
rently completing research for a
doctorate at U-M.
Ms. Orent has taught classes in
anthropology at Boston Univer-
sity and the U-M. Her research
interests center on the ethnology
of the Middle East and of Jewish
communities.
Her talk is sponsored by the
Cultural Commission of B'nai
David. The public is invited free of
charge.
