Beth Abraham Hillel Moses will sponsor a tribute dinner on behalf of State of Israel Bonds at 6 p.m. June 4 in the synagogue social hall. Dinner honorees will be Dr. Sheldon and Sybil Mintz, of West Bloomfield, who will be the reci- pients of the State of Israel's Lion of Judah Award. Dinner chairman is Dr. Harris Mainster. Dr. Sheldon Mintz earned his D.D.S. degree at the University of Detroit and his master's degree in oral maxillofacial surgery at the University of Pittsburg Dental School. Dr. and Mrs. Mintz spend four months of each year in Israel, where he is a professor and the department head of oral- maxillofacial surgery at Beilin- son Hospital in Tel Aviv. He also is a visiting professor at the Tel Aviv School of Medicine, the Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, and the Rambam Hospital in Haifa. He is a member of numerous Jewish organizations; past lead- ership roles include board mem- bership in Hillel Day School and American Red Magen David, na- tional board membership in American Friends of Tel Aviv Dental School, and committee member for the Jewish Welfare Federation and the Alpha *Omega Dental Fraternity Israel Bond ef- fort. An accomplished artist, Mrs. Mintz earned her master's degree in painting at the University of Michigan, where she was a Rac- kham Fellow. She also holds a master's degree in art history from Wayne State University, and she is currently working on a Ph.D. in art history at U of M. She is a member of Israel Bib- liophiles, and the Center for Jewish Art in Jerusalem, and both Dr. and Mrs. Mintz are members of American Friends of the Jewish Museum of Athens. She has served on the board of Beth Abraham Hillel Moses and is currently the co-chairman of the synagogue's cultural commis- sion and a member of its interior decoration and dedication com- mittees. She served for five years as president of the women's com- mittee, Michigan Region of American Red Magen David, was a volunteer at the Israel Informa- tion and Resource Center at the Jewish Community Center, has been active with the Detroit Aux- iliary of Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity, and is a member of Hadassah, Women's American ORT, National Council of Jewish Women and Amit Women.
