Wellington, New Zealand
(JTA) — The president of B'nai
B'rith International last week
called on New Zealand's Prime
Minister to join the fight against
anti-Semitism in the United Na-
tions and to oppose increased ac-
tivity of the Palestine Liberation
Organization in the Western
Pacific.
Gerald Kraft, B'nai B'rith
president and an American,
raised concern over increased
abuse of the United Nations reso-
lution equating Zionism with ra-
cism. He pointed out to Prime
Minister David Lange that the
Soviet Union, Arab nations and
some Third World countries in-
voke the resolution as a means of
airing anti-Jewish and anti-Israel
feelings.
The B'nai B'rith leaders also
noted an increase in PLO activitiy

Kraft declared that meeting

with representatives of the PLO
"is not in the interest of peace."
Recognition, said Kraft, will only
give the PLO an opportunity to
undermine Palestinian participa-
tion in peace talks with Israel.
The B'nai B'rith head praised
New Zealand's continued partici-
pation in the UN Interim Force in
Lebanon and said he was "ex-
tremely gratified" over the Pacific
nation's strong relations with Is-
rael.
Kraft, who arrived in New Zea-
land on April 21, also met with
Jewish community leaders in
Wellington and Auckland. He
then flew to Australia last
weekend for a ten-day visit.
